2016 Finance Symposium

It’s budget time… Are you ready?

As teachers and students wind down the end of this school year with final exam, STAAR tests, field trips, etc… it’s time for administrative staff to buckle down and begin budgeting and planning to lay the foundation for the school’s next fiscal year NOW!!! It is necessary to build a mental picture of what you see in the up upcoming year in expenses and compare it to the anticipated revenue to make sure you are meeting all the underlying requirements to ensure your school succeeds as a whole.

WebSmart has scheduled the 5th Annual WebSmart Finance Symposiums for the following dates:

Where will the symposiums be held?

We are hosting the symposiums again in our offices at 925 Columbus Avenue in Waco, TX. We hope to see you there again this year!

What topics will be covered?

Day 1 – HR/Payroll

  • Refresher on updating unique ID field
  • Review employee leave balances and policies
  • Review and promote 16/17 positions and contracts (Do NOT promote yet)
  • Review positions, contract types, salaries
  • Enter new pay periods
  • Review payroll plans
  • Enter TRS Calendar

Day 2 – Finance/Budget Prep

  • Review and liquidate outstanding purchase orders
  • Review and verify classification of expenditures and reclassify if necessary
  • Review outstanding liabilities and unpaid bills
  • Review and resolve outstanding stale dated checks or epays (maybe even duplicate epays)
  • Review chart of accounts and cleanup unused accounts
  • Open 16/17 general ledger
  • Discuss Budget preparation
  • Discuss options for entering/uploading 16/17 budget and posting upon board approval
  • Review EOY closing processes
  • Review and discuss reports for auditors
